Sikh man abducted in Afghanistan, fate remains unknown

New Delhi, June 23, 2020: Afghan Sikhs are again in panic after a Sikh man was abducted from Paktia, Afghanistan.

Community says that armed men kidnapped the Afghan Sikh, following which calls for saving the minuscule community has been raised.

The Afghan Sikh is Nedan Singh and his abduction has raised concerns in India as well with the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Srivastava condemning the incident and saying that:

The targeting and persecution of the minority community members by terrorists at the behest of their external supporters is a matter of grave concern.

Anurag Srivastava also said that India is in touch with the Government of Afghanistan for ensuring the safety , security, and well being of the minority community in Afghanistan.

He also said that the Indian government hopes that the “Government of Afghanistan would be able to secure the safe and early release of Mr. Nedan Singh.”

It is to be noted, that earlier Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, had said that the Afghan Sikhs want to be flown out of the country after a heinous attack by Islamic State in March this year killed 25 people of the Afghan Hindu and Sikh community.

Later, when the grieving Afghan Hindus and Sikhs went to cremate their dead ones, a powerful blast went off near the place.

Afghan Hindus and Sikhs were earlier forced to pay a special Islamic tax ‘Jizya’ as well.
