Ravichandran Ashwin Surpasses Sachin, Dravid, and Dhoni!

Ravichandran Ashwin

Not Sachin, not Dravid, not Sehwag, and not even Dhoni! It is the Indian bowling spearhead Ravichandran Ashwin who has bagged his 6th Man of the Series Award in test matches. This came after when India sealed their test series win in the Caribbean Islands.

This is the most by any Indian cricketer, ever!

It must be noted that Ravichandran Ashwin made his test debut for India only in November 2011! Since then, there has been a flurry of records that the 29-year-old has made for India in Tests as well as ODIs. He is India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is.

His statistics of taking 193 test wickets in 36 matches speak volumes of his abilities and the incisive edge he brings to this lesser known Indian bowling line up. One of the major reasons for his 6 Man-of-the-Series titles is his dependability with the bat. He has 4 test centuries under his belt, and at one point in time, he was averaging more than Shahid Afridi!

With this award in the Caribbean, Ravichandran Ashwin surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, who had won 5 Man of the Series Titles in 74 and 39 series respectively. He got this feat only his 13th test series, and 8th series where he played every test.

This is a very serious record for an Indian bowler in the day and age of unforgiving batsmen who paralyze spinners in all formats of the game!

Here’s what the Indian leg-spin Anil Kumble legend had to say about him.

I see a lot of myself in Ashwin. He is a fantastic cricketer with a lot of work ethic. Obviously, he is a far better batsman than me.
