Bangladesh: Temple desecrated, Goddess Kali statue smashed (Pic inside)

Two idols, including one belonging to Hindu Goddess Kali were desecrated by unknown perpetrators in the middle of the night at Sri Sri Rakshakali Temple in Shakharipara 5th ward under Sadar police station in Laxmipur district on April 25th, 2020, Bangladesh police said. Hindus are in insecurity in the minority areas.

Advocate Rabindra Ghosh, President of Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW), contacted Azizur Rahman Miah, Officer-in-Charge of Laxmipur Sadar Police Station to find out about the incident. Miah said this desecration could have taken place at around 12 noon on April 25, 2:00 am and then again at 4:00 am, on 26th April.

Ravi Das Nandi, a Temple attendant, has filed a case with Laksmipur Sadar Police Station (Case No. 19 dated 27.04.2020 Section: 457/295/435 Penal Code). He added that the accused would be arrested and an investigation is underway.

Ravi Das Nandi, a devotee of Sri Sri Rakshakali Mandir, spoke to BDMW and said “please save us and save the religious institutions of Hindus ”

In a statement, the Bangladesh Minority Watch strongly condemned the desecration and also asked for compensation to the Hindu administration of the Temple.
