Bangladesh: Hindu Man stabbed to death for his religion

Dhaka, February 9, 2016: Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW) has brought to light yet another heinous crime committed against the minority Hindu community in the South Asian country.

Another report by Bangladesh Minority Watch narrates the story of one Hindu man, Bishnu Barman (28), son of late Balaram Goswami, was was making a living as a tailor at Gandara- Birgonj Upazila of Dinajpur District.

On Saturday, on 06.02.16 at about 9 p.m., he was allegedly attacked when he was leaving for his home from work by his bike.

The perpetrators lunged at him and then brutally stabbed him to death.

Bishnu was rushed to the Medical College Hospital at Rangpur but doctor declared him dead.

Bangladesh Minority Watch team contacted Md.Zahangir Hossain, Officer in Charge of Birgonj police station over mobile who admitted the incident of murder and told the team that he has started a case No.04 dated 06.02.2016 under section 143/341/326/307/379/302/34 of the penal code against five attackers.

The attackers are: 1) Md. Sumarun Islam (35) son of Shamsher Ali, 2) Nur Amin Mondal (35) son of late Mokbul Meah of Char Bania, 3) Mohammad Badsha Mondal (27) son of Al-Amin Mondal of Bania Para, P.S. Kumarkhali, Kustia, 4) Md. Jalil (28) son of Saiful Islam, 5) Mohammad Ferdous (28) son of Jahurul Islam.

The Officer in Charge (O.C.) said that the first three perpetrators have been arrested while others were absconding.

O.C. also disclosed that this heinous act was not done with the intention of theft, dacoity, or extortion of money but was a pre-plan murder.

The officer assured Bangladesh Minority Watch that the perpetrators will be brought to book and confessional statements would be made available.

The human rights team of Bangladesh Minority Watch says that since it is obvious that the perpetrators did not steal or snatch away any belongings from the deceased Bishnu Barman, therefore the intention of the perpetrators was different and it was a plan to kill Bishnu because of his religion.

The local people are in shock as the deceased was considered a sincere and honest citizen of Dinajpur District.

His mother and other relatives are in deep sorrow while Bijoy Roy, father-in-law of the victim and the complainant of the case, has demanded exemplary punishment for the perpetrators responsible for the murder of Bishnu Barman.

Bangladesh Minority Watch has expressed regret and shock over the brutal murder of Bishnu Barman who has become yet another the victim of religious persecution in the nation.
