Hindu women Nolita Rani Paul (35) was sexually assaulted and killed in her bedroom on 02.07.2017 at night in the village named Pakutia-Paul Para of Gopalpur Upazila of Tangail District, Bangladesh.
But what is angering the Hindu community is the fact that the local police tried to suppress the case and tried to pass it off as a normal case of suicide under section 306 of Bangladesh Penal code instead of entertaining section 9(1) of Nari-O-Shishu Nirjaton Daman Ain,2003 (Amended) and 302 of Bangladesh Penal code (Gopalpur P.S. case No. 03 dated 03.07.2017).
The suspected perpetrators are Mohammad Aynal Hoque (40), Mohammad Jwel (30) son of Gulzer Hossain, and others of Gopalpur from the Tangail district, Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Minority Watch Team (BDMW) comprising of Advocate Rabindra Ghosh, T.K. Pandey, and Biplab Dutta visited the spot on 13.7.2017 and reached at 1 pm.
The team spoke to local witnesses.
More than 50 witnesses deposed and told the team that the incident was not that of suicide at all.
The witnessed came forth and directed the BDMW team towards the big hole from where the perpetrators entered the bed room of deceased Nolita Rani. The BDMW also said:
“The above statement was also verified in the presence of police officer Md. Abu Taher who is also an Investigating officer of the case, but police typed the copy of F.I.R and asked Mohadev Chandra Paul (Husband of the deceased) to put thumb impression. Her husband is autistic and uneducated. We also took signatures of the victim’s relatives and they all were demanding deterrent punishment for the perpetrators who are really involved with rape and murder.”
Later the human rights team also met with Md. Hasan Al – Mamun – Officer in Charge of Gopalpur police station who assured them that after the medical report is received from Civil Surgeon identifying rape the case would be turned under section 9(1) of Nari-O-Shishu Nirjaton Deman Ain,2003 (Amended) from Section 306 of penal code.
BDMW also noted that in the “Surathal Report” made by the police also said that the body of the victim had semen. So the F.I.R lodged by the autistic person husband of Nolita Rani is far from truth and reality.
