Hindu houses burnt down in Bangladesh

It was the day when the minority Hindu community saw their humble abodes being burnt down by perpetrators who wanted to grab their land.

The crime happened on 18th August 2016 at the Goyabari Union of Satibari Bazar of Dimla Upazila in the Nilphamari District. Bangladesh Minority Watch also cited Nilphamarinews24.com as its source for this report.

A Hindu dhol-bajak (drum player) named Dwejendra Nath was building and repairing his house with tin sheds when the locals, namely 1) Sakil Hossain (35), 2) Tarek Khan (30), 3) Abdur Rahim Khan (55) and more unidentified perpetrators barged in claiming the land fr themselves.

These perpetrators set fire to the houses of victims causing severe damages to their properties.

Such is the damage that the families affected are now living under the open sky.

Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW) contacted Md.Moazzem Hossain, Officer in Charge of Dimla police station who agreed that this incident has occurred and said that a case No.12 dated 18.08.2016 against six perpetrators but he also said that no accused has yet been arrested and that they were absconding.

BDMW also spoke to Dwejendra Nath he said that some powerful people are threatening him to agree to a compromise and to withdraw the case.

No monetary compensation has been given to the Hindu community members so that they could restart their lives.

Land grabbing has become a major crime that is committed against the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh. Unfortunately, the Hindu community does not get the help it needs to survive in an increasingly hostile environment which is leading to a Hindu exodus.
