Dhaka, March 29, 2016: A Hindu Temple situated at the Saghata Upazila of Gaibandha District was demolished and desecrated while Hindu ritual “Mohanaam Jagyya” was going on in the on 25th and 28th March 2016 at Saghata Upazila of Gaibandha District, Bangladesh.

The names of the attackers who attacked this Hindu Temple are: Md. Labloo Sheikh (20), 2) Md. Abul Ali (45), 3) Laily Begum (48) and 4) Md. Shahadul Sheikh (30). These names have been revealed by Bangladesh Minority Watch.

Bangladesh news site, Bdnews24.com also reported the news.

At least four Hindu devotees were injured during the attack on the Hindu Temple and the devotees have been identified as Shobha Rani, Ranginhi Rani, Mina Rani and Anjali Rani who were later given some first aid as well.

Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW) communicated with Md. Ashraful Islam, Superintendent of Police, Gaibandha District who admitted the occurrence and he said that he too visited the spot.

The SP told minority watchdog BDMW that one accused, Laily Begum, has already been arrested in connection with the case.

The minority watchdog also communicated with Officer in Charge of the Saghata Police station and he has on the record stated that a First Information Report (F.I.R) lodged by Radha Charan Das, the president of the Temple Committee, against the four Hindu Temple attackers under section 143/295/296/323/379/384/427/506/104 of Bangladesh Penal code has been launched.

The Hindu Temple president said that the ceremony also included a fair on the last day when a few locals came to the scene and started demanding money from shopkeepers of the fair. Failing to get due extortion seemed to have turned them violent.

But this is not new, Hindu Temples have increasingly become a target of the extremists as the law enforcement agencies are failing to tackle them.

We have earlier reported that a Hindu girl has also been abducted for forceful conversion to Islam, which is the state religion of Bangladesh.
