Bangladesh: Food and cloth distribution for landslide victims brings cheers

Bangladesh’s Rangamati saw landslide and floods which claimed no less than 166 lives in June.

While the government is doing its bit, recently the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) of the United Nations has pitched in $1million to provide life-saving assistance to the victims.

Now, a volunteer group named JAGO HINDU PARISHAD (JHP) undertook a food and cloth distribution on 23rd July 2017 in the Rangamati district at the Sankar Math auditorium’s hall.

At least 50 Hindu families benefited from this humanitarian aid which consisted of rice, pulses, oil packets, and jugs etc.

Basu Jalan, Joint Secretary of the JHP, said that the aid was worth 40, 000 in Bangladesh currency Taka.

Narendra Modi had expressed sadness over the loss of lives in Bangladesh due to landslides. Extending India’s solidarity with the neighboring country, the Prime Minister conveyed India’s readiness in supporting the local search and rescue efforts if required.

He had said:

“Saddened by the loss of lives in Bangladesh due to landslides. My thoughts are with the families of the deceased and prayers with the injured.

India stands shoulder to shoulder with Bangladesh. We stand ready to support local search and rescue efforts if required.”
