Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman tried to swallow documents, gave tough time: Pak media report

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was not easy to contain even when the crowd swelled. In a way, the match was one versus many.

A man who saw the parachute of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, told Dawn, that the IAF pilot jumped into a small pond and tried to swallow some documents and maps.

The Dawn, reports, despite being hurt he held a steady hand and was equipped with a pistol and he first asked the people, who had gathered around to check on him, whether the region he has fallen into is the territory of India or Pakistan.

He also told them that he needed water to drink and that his back was broken.

But perhaps, the IAF pilot suspected something strange in the gathered villagers.

To evoke the correct answer from the crowd of Pakistani youth, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman shouted some slogans to which some youth got enraged and shouted ‘Pakistan Army Zindabad’and that cleared the doubts and he reportedly acted fast after that.

As the Pakistanis started pelting stones, the IAF pilot fired in the air to scare them away.

The crowd gathered around to contain him, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman jumped into a small pond where he first took out documents and maps from his pockets, some of which he tried to swallow and soaked others in water hence, destroying any significant information.

Even when being attacked by Pakistanis, one even shot at his leg, IAF pilot neither gave in nor did he fire at them.

A man named Rzzaq who spoke to Dawn perhaps gave the essence of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s character when he said that it was good that no one shot him because  “he had given them quite a tough time”.
