Haldiram angers Sikh community, earns itself a legal notice

SGPC , Haldiram, Haldiram Bhujiawala Limited, Golden Temple, Darbar Sahib Amritsar, namkeen mixture packets

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has sent a legal notice to Haldiram Bhujiawala Limited which has printed a picture of Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) on its namkeen mixture packets.

SGPC said that this is a place of spirituality and the attempts to use the holy place for monetary benefits was unacceptable to the community.

Shikhar Dhawan is sad, and the reason is shocking!

The other reason is that people throw the empty packets in dustbins after use and it would be a disrespect for the holy Sikh place.

Haldiram has been urged to withdraw these packets with immediate effect.

Many companies have been taken to task in recent times when they seemed to have crossed the line. Some of the examples are:

Fatwa against KFC in India

Patanjali lands in soup over holy Cross

Amazon in trouble as angry protesters call for its boycott

Update on 27th June 2018: Manjinder Singh Sirsa, an Indian politician, has stated that he had spoke to Parveen Arora, General Manager of Haldiram who apprised him that the company has decided to withdraw this product with the picture of Darbar Sahib on the mixture packets from the market. He also stated that the advocate of the Namkeen group advocate will send a reply to the legal notice sent by DSGMC and the letter written by him.

He urged Sikh followers to bring to his attention ‘if they see any more packages like these’.
