Republic, the channel of Arnab Goswami is about to get launched but it seems that BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has pointed to a very glaring flaw!
In a letter to the Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the BJP leader pointed out that certain names and emblems are prohibited from being used under the Emblems and names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950 for professional and commercial purposes.

Swamy also said that as per the schedule accompanying the statute, under item 6, there is an express prohibition from using the phrase, ‘Republic.’
He said that therefore, granting the license to a news channel that has ‘Republic’ as its name will be contrary to law.
He requested for the Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to look into the matter.
To a question by a follower who asked whether ‘News Republic’ would be fine as name, in place of ‘Republic,’ Subramanian Swamy said that:
Except Republic nothing else including The Republic is barred by law. Arnab needs to taught truth and law. He is ignorant.
