New Delhi, June 21, 2016: India’s greatest spiritual gift to the world today united mankind. In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed how to bend it for the International Day of Yoga which he pushed for with gusto.
He participated in the mass yoga demonstration at the Capitol Complex, Chandigarh, on the occasion of the 2nd International Day of Yoga amidst a strong crowd.
India has been considered to the land of saints who propagated the benefits of this unique exercise for the benefit of humankind.
It is India’s biggest achievement that those sages and saints who worked on the principles of yoga for the betterment of mankind today stand vindicated.
Of course, there are hiccups, Kerala Health Minister KK Shailja decided to play politics thinking to score some points over this as well deciding to ditch the prayer fearing it was communal or somehow connected with a ‘faith.’
There are already several religious groups who have had shown apprehensions over the usage of Hindu imagery and the use of ‘om’ but what they forgot was that yoga was every bit the exercise for the mankind; just like the sun, the moon, the air and the water.
Yes, it was developed by the greatest and the calmest minds of all times, but they developed it not just for one section only. Seeing politics in yoga is a serious insult to those great men and women who were always a step ahead of their times. But it is the choices of those groups to ditch this gift and they may not take to it if they have issues with this Hindu gift. Worse is that pacifists try to assuage the egos of such groups by de-linking Hinduism, the force behind yoga, from it! It is just like saying that Buddhism has nothing to do with Nepal when knowing pretty well that Gautam Buddha was born in Lumbini!
In Indian way of thinking we say that there is no way to reach God without first paying respect to the Gurus so those who are deriving benefits from this unique gift from the sages, don’t forget to pay them their respects as well. Remember the entire life is one big session of yoga.
