BJP reacts on Sadhvi Pragya ‘s statement on Hemant Karkare

BJP today distanced itself from Sadhvi Pragya’s statement on late Hemant Karkare.

The party in a press note said that it has always considered Karkare a martyr and that Sadhvi Pragya who is also BJP’s Bhopal candidate, made the remarks in a personal capacity as she had borne physical and mental torture for years.

Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur was accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts had recently said that 26/11 hero Hemant Karkare died because of her curses.

She said that “I had told him you will be finished, and he was killed by terrorists in less than two months.”

Sadhvi had further said that the investigation team called Hemant Karkare and told him that if you do not have evidence, let her go but Karkare, Sadhvi claims said that he will do anything to get evidence against her.

‘I won’t let her go,’ Sadhvi claimed Karkare said.

Sadhvi Pragya said that this was his hatred (kutilta)… He was an anti-national. He was dharam virudh.

Sadhvi also said that she was beaten with a broad belt and that they used to beat her day and night without mercy. While breaking down, she said that she is not telling her pain or sorrow but merely trying to say that what she faced…no other woman should face in future.

Sadhvi Pragya was given a clean chit by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2015, but the trial court refused to let her off as her motorcycle was used in the blast.

Sadhvi Pragya was kept in jail for around 9-years, with the collapse of the Malegaon case, the entire theory of Hindu terrorism has broken down.

BJP leader Subramanian Swami backed Sadhvi Pragya and said that while Karkare was killed in the line of duty and hence is a martyr yet that does not deprive Sadhvi Pragya of her right of moral outrage for the physical torture and shame of being stripped that she was subjected to extract a compliant confession.
