New Delhi, April7, 2016: The feature image of this news has become iconic and has indeed united the country like never before. But the dark truth is the threat that are being heaped upon the students. The female students of the NIT Srinagar have recounted the painful experience of their stay in the campus when this controversy erupted.
The girls were threatened with rape by locals and this in itself makes the entire episode extremely gruesome. One student even recounted that one lecherous local said that rape of one of them will fix everyone. This is a threat that the government must take seriously as the Kashmiri Hindu genocide saw several such atrocities on the state’s minority.
Here is the video where the girls of NIT Srinagar speak of these threats.
The girl students however have refused to let the threats change their stance. Here is the video showing their grit and determination:
But this does not mean that the students are all alone; the social media has erupted in their support despite mainstream media staying away from the issue. The Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu has decided to suspend the work in all in all the subordinate courts, Tribunal and High Court on Thursday in protest against the brutal lathicharge on non-Local students in NIT Srinagar. Students in Jammu also protested heavily in favor of students of NIT Srinagar.
But that is not on all; even boxer Yogeshwar Dutt has come out in support of the students, he posted this picture on his Twitter account:
And this one too:
The students have alleged atrocities by the Jammu and Kashmir police and are demanding security of their future as well their lives in NIT Srinagar. They allege that the administration is unable to hear their woes.
This is what Arvind Kejriwal tweeted on the issue and expressed anguish that first the boys and girls chanting Bharat Mata ki Jai were beaten and now an FIR has also been launched against them.
But, so far no senior national-level politician has bothered to visit the NIT Srinagar campus while the students are being branded as the villains when all they are demanding is their safety.
Students of NIT Srinagar have also denied any demand of a Hindu temple at the campus as has been reported by certain sections of the media.
