Three hardcore terrorists eliminated in Nagaland

In a major operation, Security Forces eliminated three hardcore underground cadres of a joint group of NSCN(K) and ULFA(I) in general area of Tizit in Mon District of Nagaland last night.

In a press statement, the Eastern Command of Indian Army said that “based on a specific input regarding movement of terrorists, Security Forces launched an operation late in the night to intercept them.”

The statement further says that “own troops were in the process of establishing a mobile check post, an autorickshaw sped past and on being pursued, armed terrorists in the auto opened fire on Security Forces. In the ensuing firefight which took place in pitch dark conditions, three terrorists traveling in the autorickshaw were neutralized and the autorickshaw driver succumbed to injuries.”

Eastern Command of Indian Army said that the operation was led by Major David Manlun of 164 TA NAGA (H&H) who made the supreme sacrifice while gallantly leading from the front while fiercely fighting the terrorists. Three jawans sustained splinter injuries and were evacuated to Air Force Hospital, Jorhat. Their condition is stable. Three rifles, nine magazines, 277 rounds ammunition, three IEDs and two grenades were recovered. Operations are continuing.

The mortal remains of Major David were flown to Shillong today. Military Funeral of the officer is planned at Assam Regimental Centre Cemetery, Happy Valley, Shillong at 1.15 PM tomorrow (08 Jun).
