Bangladesh: Hindus accuse journalist of vandalizing Temple

Under the leadership of Subrata Kumar, a Hindu youth from Bangladesh, local Hindus launched a complaint before the law enforcing agency (Upazila Nirbahi Officer- Magistrate) against a journalist who was mischievously defaming Hinduism. The group of complainants also accused the journalist of ‘demolishing’ a Hindu Temple, said Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW). It seems to be a case of a major vandalizing attempt.

The name of the journalist is Abdul Latif who is with “The daily Prabaha,” a newspaper from Bangladesh.

The complaint has been launched under section 57 of Information Technology Act, and the alleged incident took place on 30th October 2017.

However, Police instead of arresting the Muslim Journalist started intimidating Subrata Kumar on false charges of allegations of plundering government fisheries.

BDMW has said that Subrata Kumar denied the allegations of the counter case (Source: The local newspaper “Sara Bangla” dated 4th November 2017 ). Portal dalitvoice24.com has also carried this news.

Bangladesh Minority Watch expressed serious concern over the issue and has demanded that the perpetrators who defamed Hinduism and her deities should be arrested. It also said that “the minorities should be protected.”

Due to religious persecution, there are fears that Hindus would be forced out of the country soon and that there would remain no Hindus in the country after 3 decades. Dr Abdul Barkat, economist and researcher, had noted it last year and said that “the rate of exodus over the past 49 years points to that direction.”
