Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday spoke at great lengths on the merits of Islam while wishing a gathering on Holi.

He also said that Islam teaches respect for all religions and said to make a prosperous Pakistan, people will have to think as Pakistani.

His address on the occasion of Holi was replete with Islamic understanding of the world and how non-Muslims should be treated.

At one time he said that “no one can force others to adopt a certain religion” but yet in Pakistan forced conversion cases have been reported in which it is only Muslims who have been found guilty and minorities like Hindus have faced harrowing days with no help from the establishment.

While he said that if there is anyone in unjustly treated, it is my duty to stand by them, yet the prime minister did not say much on the cases of destruction of Hindu Temples that have been reported in the Pakistani press.

In his address, there was nothing on the importance of Holi or why it is played:

His daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif tweeted these pictures showing Nawaz Sharif cutting cake occasion of Holi:

Earlier, the Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain has congratulated the Hindu community all over the world including Pakistan, on the occasion of the Holi festival. He felicitated the Hindu community and said that it was the policy of the MQM to share grief, sorrow and happiness of everyone irrespective of their caste, colour and religion. He said that the world could be made peaceful by showing respect to the religious festivals of each other.
