In Bangladesh, a young Hindu woman named Pulon Rani Barman (22) was doused in kerosene in Birpur, Narsingdi District by some men.
The case got highlighted on June 15, after a fierce condemnation by Bangladesh Jatio Hindu Mohajote (Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance). Pulon was allegedly burned on June 13th by unidentified miscreants at around 9 pm when she went out for a mobile phone recharge. The group is threatening protests if the culprits are not brought to the book.
Pulon’s attackers first abducted her, then took her to a secluded place, before pouring kerosene all over her.
Hearing her cries for help, Rani was first taken by passersby to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 12 midnight.
Mizanur Rahman, sub-inspector at the Narsingdi Model Police Station, said that the police is talking to her relatives and will take action against the attackers.
Hindu Mohajote in a statement to CurrenTriggers said that their members too spoke to the family members of the Hindu woman and also demanded capital punishment for the unidentified attackers for this ‘heinous act’ ‘against a helpless woman.’
