Hansika today came out in support of Jallikattu and vouched ‘Long Live Tamil Culture’ as protests intensified in Tamil Nadu.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu took a step forward and explained the significance of Jallikattu in a few steps.

The peaceful protests by the supporters of this ancient bull-taming practice have also earned them praise across India with cricketer Mohammad Kaif saying that the peaceful protests are a lesson for the whole world.

Chennai City Police issued a statement on the demonstrations and said:

The youth engaged in the protest demanding Jallikattu at Marina have maintained extraordinary calm & peace for the past few days.
They have cooperated with the police in maintaining free flow of traffic on Kamarajar Salai. The youth are requested not to believe any rumours being circulated in the social media relating to any police action.

Jallikattu protestors set to win?

G.V.Prakash Kumar, one of the top voices supporting the game has claimed that the bull taming game will take place in two days as confirmed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister himself.

But PETA may soon find itself in deeper troubles as Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan told the ANI News that the government must keep an eye on PETA as they are ‘ interfering unnecessarily in our traditional things’

Many actors including Suriya, Karthi, and others have come out to openly lend their support.

Mahesh Babu, Arvind Swami, Soundarya Rajnikanth have also extended their support.

Soundarya took to Twitter to explain that she is not a member of PETA (under extensive fire now) and that, like her father, she supports the bull-taming game which is the hallmark of Pongal. She also said that ‘We as a family strongly support our #Traditions and #Values #ISupportJallikattu #SaveJallikattu.’

Earlier, actor Randeep Hooda also supported the game:

However, he is the only one who spoke out in favour of Jallikattu till now, and the Bollywood, which spoke at length on the rights of Pakistani artists in the industry and even on IPL matches, has largely ignored the issue.

But in all this, one should not forget actor Trisha Krishnan who had to suspend her Twitter account after she faced online abuse for supporting PETA’s animal campaigns. Many took it to mean that she supports an anti-Jallikattu stance of the animal rights group which she clarified that was not correct.

Jallikattu protests have also woken up political parties who are now trying to pacify sentiments.

So in short, Jallikattu supporters are likely to win this round.
