PM Modi to hold virtual bilateral summit with Sri Lankan PM

New Delhi, September 23, 2020: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will hold a Virtual Bilateral Summit on 26 September 2020. A press statement from the Ministry of External Affairs of India said today.

The statement also said that this Virtual Bilateral Summit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to comprehensively review the broad framework of the bilateral relationship soon after the Parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka and in the context of the time-tested friendly ties between the two countries.

As both India and Sri Lanka face behemoth challenges with regards to the economy, it is expected that the summit will be able to pave way for further economic cooperation.

Earlier, the President of Sri Lanka,  Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convey warm wishes on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s birthday.

Both Sri Lankan leaders expressed their strong desire and commitment to further strengthen the relationship between the neighbouring countries. They expressed appreciation for the continued bilateral cooperation including in the joint fight against COVID pandemic.
