Ghana Hindus have lost their second spiritual Hindu Guru, Swami Satyanand Saraswati, in the early morning of May 28th, 2019.

In 2016, Swami Ghananand had passed away and it was he who had initiated Swami Satyanand Saraswati into the order of Sanyasi/Monkhood.

The Hindu Monastery of Africa (HMA) announced the sorrowful news and informed the followers that the second master of the HMA, Swami Satyanand Saraswati fell ill about a week ago following which he was taken for treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The Hindu Guru passed away during his time in the hospital ‘peacefully,’ HMA noted in its press statement that Currentriggers.com accessed.

Life and parents:

Swami Satyanand was born on 5th March 1938 at Brafoyaw which is a town in Cape Coast in the central region of Ghana.

His parents were humble peasants and illiterate.

He was born into a polygamous family and he was the last born of his mother who was the first wife of his father’s two wives.

A Ghanaian born Catholic, Swami Satyanand embraced Hinduism in his youth. He worked for the Hindu Dharma for over 35 years and was a widely followed Hindu leader. After embracing Hinduism, he also soon became a staunch vegetarian.

Guru Satyanand liked Football, Ludo, and Draft.

Meeting Guru Guide Essel:

On the 12th February 2012, Swami Satyanand Saraswati was initiated by his Guru Swami Ghananand Saraswati in the order of Sanyasi.

Swami Satyanand actually came into contact with Swami Ghananand Saraswati early on when he was troubled with some unknown sickness and no treatment gave him the desired results.

He was then advised to meet one ‘Guru Guide Essel’ by his friend who was a disciple of the same Guru. The Guru Guide Essel was none other than the Swami Ghananand Saraswati who advised Swami Satyanand to get into prayers and soon after he was cured of his ailment. He turned to Hinduism and devoted his life to Guru Guide Essel or Swami Ghananand and never looked back afterward. For the next 27 years, Swami Satyanand earlier known as Sylvester Kwame Bentum became a disciple of Swami Ghananand Saraswati and in October of 1972, he joined the Divine Life Society.

The spiritual Hindu Guru Satyanand renounced his earlier life soon after, chose to live in the HMA, and assist his Guru in furthering the knowledge and spreading of Sanatan Dharma or Hinduism.

Late Guru Satyanand also helped his departed Guru Swami Ghananand to restructure the Hindu Monastery of Africa, Ghana.

The HMA, Ghana, has established five (5) branches in Ghana and a branch in Togo and published fifteen (15) books on Hinduism.
