External Affairs Minister Jaishankar to visit Bhutan

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will visit Bhutan from 07-08 June, 2019. This is Dr. Jaishankar’s first visit abroad as the External Affairs Minister and also reflects the importance that India attaches to its bilateral relationship with Bhutan, who India considers a close friend and a neighbour.

During the visit, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is expected to receive an audience with Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan; call-on Lyonchhen Dr. Lotay Tshering, Prime Minister of Bhutan; and meet his counterpart Lyonpo Dr. Tandi Dorji, Foreign Minister of Bhutan.

A press note described the India and Bhutan relationship as follows:

“India and Bhutan share a unique and time tested bilateral relationship, characterized by utmost trust, goodwill and mutual understanding. During the visit, the two sides will discuss the entire gamut of bilateral relations, including the upcoming high-level exchanges, economic development and hydro-power cooperation.

External Affairs Minister’s visit is in keeping with the tradition of regular visits and exchange of views at the high levels between the two countries.”
