Awami League leader assaulted minority lawyer

New York, May 10, 2016: Minority Hindu Lawyer belonging to Awami League was in rude shock when he was repeatedly attacked by Awami League personnel belonging to the majority community on 29.11.2015 and 26.03.2016.

The incident occurred near Kalshira School located at Chitalmari Upazila of Bagerhat District and the news got prominent mention in the national and local dailies.

The Awami League personnel involved in the attack are 1) Abdul Hossain Sheikh (55),2) Gaous Sheikh (50), 3) Hedayet Sheikh (45) 4) Zahir Sheikh (40), 5) Sahid Sheikh (38), 6) Ohidul Sheikh (27), 7) Tutul Sheikh, 8) Sohag Sheikh (20), 9) Enayet Sheikh (35), 10) Kamal Sheikh(34), 11) Daru Sheikh, 12) Dilan Sheikh (24), 13) Israfil Sheikh (34) 14) Quamrul Sheikh (35).

Besides these people associated with the ruling Awami League, 10 to 12 more unknown perpetrators armed with deadly weapons tried to assault Advocate Sarat Chandra Majumder and Parimal Kanti Brahma of Chilltalmari Upazila.

These perpetrators has also looted fish stock on 29.11.2015 from the ponds belonging to the minorities.

Advocate Sarat Chandra Majumder lodged F.I.R at the Chitalmari Police Station under sections 447/328/379/427 of the penal code, but police did not arrest any of the perpetrators.

The second attack was made on 26.03.2016 by these very perpetrators and this time Parimal Kanti Brahma lodged an F.I.R. at Chitalmari Police Station the perpetrators, but police neglected to arrest them because all of them belonged to the Awami League.

Bangladesh Minority Watch visited the spot, met with Md.Rezaul Karim, Officer in Charge of Chitalmari Police Station , took statements of the victims and Officer in Charge  and also communicated with Md. Zahangir Alam – Deputy Commissioner – Bagerhat who said that he had no knowledge about such attack.

This was surprising claim as everyone in the Bagerhat District know about the protest human chain which was organized after the physical assault.

People associated with Awami League have often come under the scanner for their roles in violent crimes against the minorities but no attempt has been made by the ruling party to arrest the crime rate of the people associate with it.
