Hindu man found murdered in Bangladesh

Dhaka, June 1, 2016: A Hindu was murdered and his body was thrown in a ditch in Bangladesh.

The dead body of late Sukumar Kumar Mohanta (35), a Hindu man was finally traced on Monday noon.

The Hindu man’s dead body was traced from Abadpur village which falls within Akkelpur Police Station at Joypurhat District.

A Bangladesh daily Ittefaq.com also covered the news of this murder.

Sajjad Hossain- Officer in Charge of Akkelpur police station said that the deceased was the son of Souvhagga Mohonta.

And that thee deceased Hindu man Sukumar Kumar was untraceable since Thursday last and that finally his body was recovered on Tuesday, i.e. on 31.05.2016.

On Tuesday afternoon his dead body was found floating in a ditch and after which the local people informed the police.

As far as the police goes, they are only saying that “Somebody murdered Sukumar Kumar and thrown into the ditch.”

But locals also are apprehensive that the murder could be due to the deceased’s faith.

Bangladesh Minority Watch expressed its concern and sorrow over the murder of the Hindu man and it demanded that the perpetrators responsible for brutal murder be arrested and brought to book as per law of the land.

It also demanded that an inquiry committee must be formed to ascertain the cause of murder.

Bangladesh has been seeing a rise in crimes against the Hindu community and forced conversions,  and murders have been going on at an alarming rate. The continued cycle of violence has people questioning the presence of Islamic State in the nation.

The government of Bangladesh, however, declines that there is any presence of Islamic State.

Due to fear of persecution, many minorities, such as Hindus, Buddhists and Christians are being forced to take shelter in the near-by India where illegal migration from Bangladesh has become a major issue.
