New Delhi, October 31, 2021: Indonesia’s founding father Sukarno’s daughter Sukmawati Sukarnoputri embraced Hinduism this week. Her son, Muhammad Putera, also accompanied her mother in the run-up to the conversion ceremony.
The religious conversion to Hinduism began with Sudi Wadani, and was held on October 26, 2021, in Singaraja, Buleleng.
In a statement Sukmawati Sukarnoputri said:
“My parents are no more alive, I am also no longer tied down to their wishes to learn Islam. My husband is also not alive. Hence, there is a soul-calling from my ancestors who embraced Balinese Hinduism.”
She also added that many, including former president Megawati Sukarnoputri, have given their blessings on taking on this spiritual path.
Earlier, Indonesia’s Princess of Java has also embraced Hinduism.
Indonesia boasts of the world’s biggest Muslim population.
