Years after the fall of the Soviet Union, the Church is enjoying a revival under the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Recently, The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) translated an interview excerpt where Putin drew a parallel between Communism and Christianity.

Putin can be seen saying that Communism implemented the same principles as those espoused by Christianity and that “they (Communists) didn’t invent anything new.”

In the promo interview, he is seen saying that freedom, brotherhood, equality, justice…all those things are in the Bible.

He also gives an example where he cites the ‘The Moral Code of the Builder of Communism’ and calls it a projection, and a simple extract from the Bible. He also says further in the promo that ‘they (Communists) put Lenin in the Mausoleum and asks that ‘is that any different from hallows for Orthodox Christians?’

His views may shock the Western audience who have shown serious disdain for Communism and consider it opposite of Christianity.
