The actors in India take stands on a lot of issues but some of their stands contradict their own lifestyle. In several of her interviews, actor Shriya Saran, has spoken out how she loves non-vegetarian food especially sambhar and fish.
Her love for grilled fish and Malabar and Goan fish curry is known but the actor believes that chaining an elephant is tantamount to animal cruelty.
In a hurriedly composed tweet the actor wrote:
“I wish they stop changing helpless elephant at Madurai temple. #animalcruelty”
@shriya1109 please spread the word guys.

Perhaps Shriya Saran wanted to say chaining but it came out as changing. She also asked her followers to spread the word on this.
But what Shriya Saran does not know is that the forest area is shrinking in India and these Temples actually help in conservation of elephants. Yes, chaining looks cruel but so does putting a collar and a leash on a dog or a harness on a horse. What would she have to say to it? In short, a chain is merely there to keep the elephant in one place and is not meant to hurt the poor being. If Shriya Saran found the animal to be in distress or suffering from it is another matter and she could take it up with the Temple authorities. Considering her celebrity status she would have gotten heard easily.

It would have also been much better had Shriya Saran also ponder over whether an elephant is safer in a temple or in a jungle where he may get hunted down for ivory. An elephant or any other animal must not be hunted, but this world is not perfect and before we jump on the train of outrages on everything, let’s think
