There is a school in California named Ganesha High School!

Ganesha High School! The name may surprise many but in California, it is a thriving school.

Now, the Hindus are suggesting building a shrine to Hindu deity Lord Ganesha in this public school in Pomona (California) named after him and whose emblem carries Ganesha’s picture complete with his vahana (vehicle) mouse.

It would be quite befitting for the Ganesha High School (GHS) to have a shrine for Lord Ganesha, who in Hinduism was worshipped as god of wisdom and remover of obstacles and was invoked before the beginning of any major undertaking; distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed indicated in a statement in Nevada today.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, urged Pomona Unified School District trustees lead by President Dr. Roberta A. Perlman, Superintendent Richard Martinez and GHS Principal Jennifer Francev to seriously explore it.

Rajan Zed also suggested the City of Pomona and its Mayor Tim Sandoval to consider erecting a statue in its Ganesha Park. Presence of Lord Ganesha might prove auspicious for the School District and the City, Zed added.

Zed noted that the shrine and statue of the Lord would fit well with the spirit of Pomona, which was named in honor of a Roman goddess. Moreover, Pomona also reportedly has a street called Ganesha Place, a neighborhood named Ganesha Hills and a walk-route known as Ganesha Hills Loop.

About 60 acres Pomona’s oldest Ganesha Park has a pool and about 250 year old redwood tree grove in the City of Pomona, incorporated 1888; whose Mission Statement includes “improves the quality of life for our diverse community” and one of its Core Values is “Cultural Diversity”.

GHS, whose Vision includes creating “Socially Responsible Citizens”, has a Bible Club, a Fashion Club and a Dance Team and Spanish represents the largest language group. Its “dress code violations” include bare midriffs, underwear worn as outerwear, spaghetti strap tops, etc. “Whistling” is “unwelcome” under its Sexual Harassment Policy and “Cyber Bullying” is not permitted. It has a “Ganesha Store” where one can purchase “Ganesha Gear”.
