Unidentified gunmen, wearing military uniforms, opened fire on the Iranian military parade in Ahvaz on Saturday straining relations between Iran and USA which are already at a historical low.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani also said that a U.S.-allied country in the Persian Gulf was behind this attack. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are close allies of USA and are the Sunni majority, while Iran is Shia majority. In a statement, Rouhani said:

“All of those small mercenary countries that we see in this region are backed by America. It is Americans who instigate them and provide them with necessary means to commit these crimes.”

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei also condemned the terror attack in Ahvaz and blamed the USA for the bloodshed of women and children:

“The tragic martyrdom of a group of our people in Ahvaz at the hands of mercenary terrorists exposed atrocity and viciousness of enemies of Iranian nation. These heartless mercenaries who open fire on innocent women, children & men are dependents of bogus advocates of human rights.

Their crime is a continuation of conspiracies by US-backed regimes in region which have aimed at creating insecurity in our dear country. To their dismay, the Iranian nation will persist on their noble &prideful path & will—like before—overcome all animosities. As India is close to both the USA and its allies like Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and UAE and also close to Iran, hence, its situation is delicate in the context of the terror strike in Ahvaz city.
