Sushma Swaraj and Nirmala Sitharaman to visit US for 2+2 Dialogue

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will visit the United States for the first meeting of the ‘2+2 Dialogue’ on 6 July 2018 with Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo and Secretary of Defence James N. Mattis.

This new dialogue format was agreed to between the two sides during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Washington D.C. on 25-26 June 2017. The two sides are expected to share perspectives on strengthening their strategic and security ties and exchange views on a range of bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Earlier, the fifth India-Japan 2+2 Vice-Ministerial level dialogue was held in New Delhi on June 19, 2018.

The meeting was co-chaired on the Indian side by Foreign Secretary, Vijay Gokhale and Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra and from the Japanese side by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs,  Takeo Mori and Vice-Minister of Defence for International Affairs, Ro Manabe. The Dialogue was held in a friendly and forward-looking manner, in keeping with the India-Japan ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’.
