President of Afghanistan thanks India for supply of food and medical assistance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Dr Ashraf Ghani had a telephonic conversation on August 3rd 2020. Both leaders exchanged greetings on the joyous festival of Eid – ul – Adha.

President Ghani thanked Prime Minister Modi for timely supply of food and medical assistance to meet Afghan requirement.

Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to the people of Afghanistan in their quest for a peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive Afghanistan. The two leaders also exchanged views on the evolving security situation in the region and other areas of mutual bilateral interest.

Around eleven members, belonging to the Sikh and Hindu minority community of Afghanistan, arrived in India on July 26th 2020. Nidan Singh Sachdeva, who was released from captivity on July 18, is also among those who reached Delhi.

India has said that it granted appropriate visa and facilitated their travel to India.

India has appreciated the efforts of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in extending necessary support for the safe return of these families. More Afghan Hindu and Sikh families are expected to come in the upcoming days.
